The name comes from the partnership’s original premises, the Pineloft is an old stone barn on the outskirts of Newry. The business outgrew this workspace in a few years and in 1999 moved to new purpose built showroom and workshop. By 2003 more space was needed and so additional premises were acquired where all cabinetry and woodworking was carried out.

In the beginning Pineloft made only free standing, bespoke furniture direct to the public but produced kitchen cabinets for other companies. Then a previous customer came into the showroom with a set of kitchen plans and after some persuasion we took the job and Blackthorn Kitchens was born. Six weeks later we received our first thank you card for the kitchen we had produced, since then we have received many thank you cards. Now with the benefit of the latest computer aided design we plan, make and install kitchens throughout Ireland.

Today over 70% of our business is repeat or recommendation. People come to Pineloft furniture workshop where they can inspect samples of our work and photos of recent installations. This is often food for thought in developing their ideas or forming new ones on the style, layout and choice of material they wish to use. Combining customers’ ideas and dreams with our past experience ensures customer satisfaction within their budget.
